For the first time, we are excited to welcome Rick Franklin to lead us in worship. As a gifted guitarist, with life-long passion for sharing worship, we are thrilled to have him lead us in daily retreat worship. Additionally, with his extensive musical collection, he will bring both spiritual, as well as fitting and familiar, heart-warming, seculars songs for our evenings around the campfire.
Rick’s life journey after High School led him through the Naval Academy, class of ‘82, after which he served as a Marine officer for 12 years. After leaving the military, he has worked in accounting, teaching, grant management, and has also continued his education, earning a Master’s Degree in Business, and even has taken some PhD courses! He has lived in Montana, Alaska, Utah, and returned to Washington state in 2020 to help his aging mom. He currently lives in Wenatchee, Washington and leads worship in his home church. He not only joins us as a musician to lead us in worship, but as a fellow “single” who has encountered, and can relate to the challenges of failed relationships, aging parents, and navigating life solo – in a world built for pairs! His love and gift for music formed at an early age. At the end of 6th grade, one of his friends brought his Creedence Clearwater Revival record to a school party, and the 1st song they played at the party was “Born On The Bayou”. This was the moment his desire to becoming a musician was born! By the age of 13, with his mom’s classical guitar and a chord chart, he started teaching himself to play. He played for hours, every day, until his wrists and fingers were screaming; this was his relentless dedication to the love of music that was forming in him. Of course he wanted to be a rock star, but God had other plans! Even while in the Marine Corps, music was always the driving force in Rick’s life. His rock and roll dream came to an end during his last tour of duty in 1991 in Okinawa, Japan. With his wife and 3-year-old son back home in the US, the very first Friday at his new command, the Master Sergeant who was working for him, asked him if he liked Gospel music because there was a group visiting from the States who was playing at the chapel for the next couple nights. After work, since he was alone, he made a decision to headed to the chapel to listen in. Although he wasn’t particularly excited by the genre, during the performance God was talking to him, impressing on his heart that he should be playing this kind of music, rather than trying to be a rock star! So, on Sunday, he went to church, and after the service, talked to the chaplain about joining the worship team. At the Lord’s calling, Rick has been playing on worship teams everywhere he has lived, ever since that day! He is the proud father of 2 grown sons, 2 adolescent daughters, and has 1 granddaughter. |
